Homeownership: The ultimate dating aphrodisiac

Want a date? Buy a home.

NEW YORK (CNNMoney) — When it comes to dating, homeownership can be the ultimate aphrodisiac.

In a survey of 1,000 single people, more than a third of women and 18% of men said they would much rather date a homeowner than a renter.

Only 2% of women said they preferred to date a man who rents, while only 3% of men said they would choose a woman who rents over one that owns her home, according to the survey, which was conducted by Harris Interactive for real estate site Trulia.

Both sexes also clearly prefer it when there’s no roommate in the picture; 62% of survey respondents, men and women, prefer to date singles who live alone.

And there was bad news for the growing number of boomerang kids — the young adults who went off to college, graduated and then wound up back in their old bedrooms. It’s going to be hard to find love, except (perhaps) from your parents. Less than 5% of all singles surveyed said they would date someone living in their childhood homes.

“That’s a real deal-breaker,” said Michael Corbett, a spokesman for Trulia. “If you’re still living with your folks, you’re dead-on-arrival for dating.”

Trulia also asked which home features are the biggest turn-ons. Number one turned out to be a master bath. Men (64%) love that private sanctum almost as much as women (75%) do.

Walk-in closets were cited by 55% of men and 72% of women and gourmet kitchens got 51% of the male vote and 62% of the female. Hardwood floors, outdoor decks and home theaters also came in high on the list.

Interestingly enough, hot tubs got a lot less love from respondents. Only 26% of men and 22% of women cited the old standby in the science of seduction as an amenity they would truly want.

So now that you’re sold, start searching the Florida Keys MLS for your ultimate aphrodisiac!

Spiraling Whitefly On Warpath In South Florida

The pest is a nuisance for trees and driveways and is leaving its sticky goo all over South Florida.

Wondering what that white goo is on your windshield, plants or patio??? Don’t worry it’s nothing dangerous.

It comes compliments of the spiraling whitefly which mates and leaves eggs on tree.  As they hatch they leave a sticky goo on whatever is below them–including cars, patios, sidewalks and buildings

Horticulturist Michael Orfanedes with Broward Extention Education says that’s why it’s so important to wash the goo off surfaces immediately. The whitefly has already done hundreds of dollars worth of damage on fancy landscaping in areas like Victoria Park.

The good news is the goo should not make you sneeze or itch.

The spiraling whitefly first showed up in Miami-Dade in 2009 and in Broward in 2010.

Interested in Purchasing a home in the Florida Keys?

You have made the decision to start looking for a home in the Florida Keys!  The next question to answer is which part of the Florida Keys would you like to live?  Each area is a little unique and has its own attributes.  Understanding what your lifestyle is will help you determine which area of the Keys will best suit you.  Do you need to be close to the mainland for doctors visits or because you work there.  Do you need to be close to a large airport?  Do you need to be close to schools?  Do you fish primarily on the ocean side or bay side?  How far will you have to travel to get to your fishing spot? Where do you work in the Keys?  These are some questions to think about.

The Florida Keys are 106 miles long.  Key Largo is the first island you enter and Key West is the last island in the chain.  Key Largo is approximately 30 – 45 minutes from the mainland.  If you work on the mainland, need to be close to airports or need to visit specialists in the medical field – you might want to consider the Key Largo area or maybe even Islamorada.  There is an elementary school in Key Largo and the High School (Coral Shores High School)  for the Upper Keys is located on Plantation Key in Islamorada.

The Village of Islamorada is the next set of island you come across.  4 islands make up Islamorada – Plantation Key, Windley Key, Upper Matecumbe and Lower Matecumbe.  Islamroada has the best boating in the Keys – the islands are only about 4 miles long.  So there are many bridges to access either the Atlantic Ocean or the Florida Bay.  And the width of the islands here are only about 1 mile wide.  Islamorada has an elementary school (Plantation Key School) and Coral Shores High School.   Islamorada and Key Largo are in the Upper Keys.

The Middle Keys consists of the Marathon area; Conch Key, Duck Key, Grassy Key, Key Colony Beach and Marathon Key.  Marathon has a lot of conveniences – Home Depot, Office Depot, Winn Dixie and Publix, Walgreens and CVS, McDonalds and Burger King, and many great shops.  There is also an airport for private planes/ jets.  Marathon has an elementary and High School.

The Lower Keys, which consist of all the islands in-between Marathon and Key West.  This part of the island chain is mostly residential.  Big Pine Key does have a large grocery store but most of the other shops are small, family owned stores.  The Lower Keys has a lot of space, especially Big Pine Key.  This is where the Key Deer roam.  You can get a little more bang for you buck down here.  If you need more conveniences you would have to drive to either Marathon or Key West.   The distance from the Lower Keys to the mainland is about 2.5- 3 hours.  The Lower Keys has an elementary school but for High School will either go to Marathon or Key West.  The islands in the Lower Keys can be 4-10 miles wide – so traveling to get to the ocean or bay can be a good distance.

Key West is the last island in the chain and the most expensive Key.  Here you will find the southernmost point of the United States of America!  Key West has a great deal of city conveniences.  There is even an airport with large commercial jets.  The military base is also located just outside of Key West.  Key West has an elementary school and High School.

Once you have decided which part of the Keys will suite your needs, then it will help narrow down the search.  No matter where you decide, you will soon learn the “local” spots whether on land or on the water.  The entire length of the Keys are beautiful and have the same laid back attitude!

Imagine

ValeriaMoran.KeyLargo@gmail.com cellphone/text 305-394-1415

You know, I’ve lived here for over 25 years and I STILL wake up every day thinking “I love living here!”

I’m so happy I made this happen for myself.

Of course, I didn’t do it ALL on my own, there was a good deal of conspiracy from the Universe to line up all the details properly, but it all began with my open-hearted DESIRE to be here to begin with.

It seems there are Island People and there are Not. If you’re an Island Person, you know it in your Self and how you feel when you’re here. The Desire is then born to be in the Keys more frequently, or perhaps more permanently. Maybe you think, I could buy a property, vacation here a couple times a year and when I retire, I’ll be a snowbird, live here all winter long. Soon you’re daydreaming about your dock and the boat you always REALLY wanted. Your mind recalls the early morning scent of the ocean and the glittering light sparkling off the water, for a brief moment you think you hear the Island “music”~the rustle of the palm fronds, calls of the earliest gulls, the evocative sighs of the soft tropical cross breezes. When images like these cause you to respond longingly, you’re an Islander-In-The-Making. And your Desire sets Energy in motion that automatically begins to move you toward your goal.

Just for a moment today… or maybe for a short meditation break in your busy life… take a couple of deep breaths with deep exhalations, and relax. Close your eyes and open your mind and heart, and in the privacy of your own head, IMAGINE. Imagine. What would my life be like if I was doing what I REALLY wanted to do?

If ever I can help you explore your Heart’s Desires in regard to living in Paradise, please feel free to contact me. Email is valeriamoran.keylargo@gmail.com, texting and talking 305-394-1415. Have a wonderful day ;~)

Always Paradise

Always Beaming in the Smilin' Islands!

I recently returned from a year and a half RV trip across America, after
living full time in the Keys for 25 years. It was an amazing experience.
We traveled slowly from east to west, took the lesser roads, ate at the
locals’ places and listened to the voices of the people wherever we went.
As magnificent and full of wonder as our country is, I never did find a
place I liked better than the Fabulous Florida Keys.

We were in Denver in May when the call came there was a family emergency,
and when the decision was made to return to live full time here again ~ as
Summer approached ~ it caused me pause as I was enjoying the lovely cool
nights and high 70′s Colorado Spring. I groaned to think we were heading
into the Tropics in the hottest, most humid time of year.

How ironic that we drove into Key Largo on the 4th of July weekend only to
find out then and throughout the month, that temperatures in our jewel-like
chain of islands were among the coolest in the nation, AND we had those
relief-bearing ocean breezes to keep even the humidity doable. Day after
day the news reported the misery in the Northern states (mainland Florida
and upward!) as we here in the Keys lived summer as usual: poolside, on the
boat, lobstering, grilling under the palms. Oh yes, and SELLING REAL ESTATE
at a brisker pace than recent years, Hallelujah! (Congratulations
Freewheeler, for the frontrunner position here in Islamorada!)

Winter, Summer, Spring, Autumn. It really doesn’t matter what time of year
you’re talking about, this is ALWAYS PARADISE in the Gorgeous Florida Keys.
It’s a great time to make that Island purchase, people ~ and Welcome to
Monroe County where the weather just can’t be beat! 305-394-1415 anytime if ever I can be of assistance to you in making your real estate transactions.

Now Is The Time

There are many reasons to own a home in the Florida Keys and fishing ranks near the top. Capt. Troy of Reel Mell-O Charters has been targeting Permit on the wrecks. A live crab on a half ounce jig does the trick. Dave, who runs Chris’s Bait at Tavernier Creek Marina, has been trying for years with multiple guides to get his Permit and he finally did with Capt. Troy. Dave\’s Permit Bob and Betty from Islamorada jumped into the action as well with catching their first Permit. Bob and Betty\’s Permit

Islamorada Homes – Buyer purchases home sight unseen

This is the first time I have sold a property to a customer without them physically seeing it.  Today was closing day and the first time my customer’s were going to walk through their new home.  I was excited and a little nervous.

It was last spring that we met.  I showed them property for a couple of months, but then they had to head back up north.  Knowing their desire to purchase a home in a warmer climate, I kept sending them updates of Fl Keys Homes.  Having an understanding of their parameters, I set them up in my database to receive automatic updates.  Whenever a property came on the market that met their needs or was reduced in price, they were notified within an hour.

Take a look at their reaction of seeing their new home for the first time

Fishing is Great in the Florida Keys

One of the best reasons to live and play in the Florida Keys is the Water..
Yellowtail snapper fishing in Islamorada aboard the Fish Tales Charters out of Whale Harbor Marina with Capt. Ron.  It takes a little finesse to catch them – current behind the boat, baits are squid, shrimp or live bait pilchards. Chum mixed with oats, and a large chum bag – preferable a 25lb brick of chum!  and of course the Captain’s secret spot on the reef! Yellowtail is a tasty sweet white fish, can be prepared many ways. Most local restaurants will prepare your catch for you! One of my favorites is just saute in garlic and butter, or butter, lemon and dill. Its wonderful!
